Legacy Giving

What if there was a way to benefit both your community and your estate, and create a legacy of help for those you leave behind?

There is. It’s called legacy giving, and your Hastings Sunrise Community Policing Centre can now offer it to the community.

A legacy gift is a planned gift for the future that allows you to impact sustainable change. It can be made through your will or by designating beneficiaries on certain assets, such as a life insurance policy or registered account like a TFSA, RRSP, or RRIF.

 

Your gift can leave a lasting mark.

One example is the colourful and uplifting mural on the concrete wall flanking the entryway to our offices at 2620 East Hastings. It was made possible by a gift from the will of Yasmina, a former HSCPC board member, who participated in the project before her passing.

“By remembering HSCPC in your estate plans, you help to ensure that we have the resources to meaningfully engage community members to actively address the crime prevention and safety needs of the neighbourhoods that we serve, not only today but for years to come,” says Clair MacGougan, executive director.

Such a gift may save much – or all – of the taxation burden on an estate by funneling assets
directly into the community. Even a modest contribution can have a significant effect.

 

Ways to Leave a Legacy

Here are some ways to leave a personal legacy gift with HSCPC:

  • Include a legacy gift in your will.
  • Name the Hastings Sunrise Community Policing Centre as a beneficiary of your RRSP,
    RRIF, pension, life insurance policy, savings bonds or TFSA.
  • Consider a charitable remainder trust or gift of property.

Please let us know if you have any questions about our Legacy Giving program. If you’re ready
to meet with your advisor, lawyer, or notary, we recommend you bring our address and legal
name with you (included below).

Sample Language to include in your Will to leave a bequest to the HSCPC:

“I direct my Trustee to pay or transfer [ __ (%) percent of the residue of my Estate] OR [the sum of $__ ]
to Hastings North Area Planning Association (DBA Hastings Sunrise Community Policing Centre), BN
86355 7302 RR0001, presently located in Vancouver, British Columbia.”
