VPD launches S.A.F.E. program for seniors

The Vancouver Police Department is sounding the alarm on the growing problem of elder abuse. As some of the most vulnerable citizens in our community, senior citizens are increasingly subject to physical, psychological, financial, and sexual abuse, as well as neglect.

To coincide with World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, VPD launched the Safety Awareness for Elders program – S.A.F.E. This proactive campaign seeks to educate seniors, family members and care providers on recognizing the signs of elder abuse, tips for prevention and safety, and how to connect with key resources in the community. The goal of this program is to ignite a public discussion about elder abuse and promote safety for the elderly in our communities.

As our senior demographic grows, the police have an important responsibility to respond to and prevent crimes against our elders – but they need your help. Please read and share this safety guide on how seniors can protect themselves from being victims of abuse.
