Citizens Patrol volunteers are trained to look for suspicious or criminal activity in a safe and non-confrontational manner.
They travel throughout the neighbourhood on foot and by bicycle, observing and listening to the public.
Community concerns are reported to the Community Policing Centre. Potentially serious situations are also reported to the VPD so immediate concerns can be addressed and longer-term trends can be identified.
Program partners include the VPD, City of Vancouver (CoV), ICBC and local community agencies.
Citizens Patrol activities include:
- distributing crime-prevention information
- answering community questions
- locating abandoned and stolen vehicles
- reporting suspicious activities, crimes in progress and quality of life concerns
